Topic: Countable & Uncountable Problem
গণনযোগ্যতার ভিত্তিতে Noun কে দুই ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়-
1) Countable Noun
2) Uncountable Noun
Countable Noun: যেসব Noun এর সংখ্যা গণনা করা যায়, তাদেরকে Countable Noun বলে।
Countable Noun গণনাযোগ্য এবং Countable Noun এর Plural হয়।
Example: Book, Stars, Pen etc
UnCountable Noun: যেসব Noun এর সংখ্যা গণনা করা যায় না, তাদেরকে Uncountable Noun বলে।
Uncountable Noun কে অন্য উপায়ে গণনা করা যায়। Uncountable Noun Singular হয়।
Example: Water, Honesty, Air, Oil, Physics, News etc.
Common Uncountable Noun: কিছু Uncountable Noun আছে যাদের খুব সহজেই চেনা যায়, একবার ভালোভাবে দেখলেই মনে থাকে। সেসব Common Uncountable Noun গুলো হলো-
Water, Tea, Sugar, Air, Rice, Beauty, Coffee, Milk, Oxygen, Wood, Math, Economics, Hair, Food, Salt, Metal, Sand etc
বিভিন্ন পরিক্ষার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কিছু Uncountable Noun:
Advice- পরামর্শ , Baggage, Bread, Accommodation- বাসস্থান, Brick, Chewing gum, corn, Danger, Equipment, fun, Furniture, Homework, Information, Knowledge, lightning, Luggage, Machinery, money, music, news, permission, poetry, Poverty, research, rubbish,scenery,slang, soap, Thunder, time, Traffic, vocabulary, weather, work etc.
আরও কিছু Uncountable Noun আছে যাদের বিকল্প Countable Noun পাওয়া যায়। যেমনঃ
Uncountable Countable
Accommodation A House
Advice Tip, Suggestion
Baggage Bag
Corn Crops
Electricity Battery
Equipment Tool
Furniture Table/Chair
Information Report, Fact

Uncountable Noun এর ক্ষেত্রে একটি বুঝাতে Uncountable Noun এর পূর্ব বা এই জাতীয় শব্দগুচ্ছ বসে।
Example:
1) Advice- A piece of advise
2) Baggage - A piece of baggage/ an item of baggage.
3) Bread - a piece of bread/ slice of bread
4) Chess- a game of chess
5) Chewing gum - a piece of chewing gum
6) Equipment - a piece of equipment
7) Furniture - a piece of furniture
8) Information - a piece of information
9) Lightning- a flash of lightning/ a bolt of lightning
10) Wind- a gust of wind
যেসব Uncountable Noun কে a piece of বা অনুরুপ শব্দগুচ্ছ দ্বারা Singular করা যায়, সেগুলোর Plural ও করা যায়।
Example:
1) Information - a piece of information ( singular)
Information - two pieces of information ( plural)
এ ক্ষেত্রে a এর স্থানে Two/there/four..... হবে এবং piece এর স্থানে pieces হবে। কিন্তু Information এর কোনো পরিবর্তন হবে না।
আরও কিছু Uncountable Noun আছে যাদের শেষে S যোগ করলেই Countable Noun হয়ে যায়।
Example:
Food - Foods ( বিভিন্ন প্রকার খাবার বুঝাতে )
Time - Times ( বার, বিভিন্ন সময় বুঝাতে )
Sand - Sands ( মরুভূমি বুঝাতে )
Water - Waters ( জলাশয়, সমুদ্র বুঝাতে)
Work - Works ( সাহিত্যকর্ম, শিল্পকর্ম বুঝাতে)
Example:
1) I have finished reading the works of Shakespeare.
2) We pray five times a day.
